I chose to research the photo of the college student carrying her dorm mattress. This post was published by the Washington Post. After reading into the article more, this female student was raped by another person on campus and chose to carry this mattress, like the emotions and life changing feelings that will carry with her forever. She vowed to carry the mattress until her rapist was no longer on campus, and this continued on the school year until the graduation day- when they both graduated.
There was another photo shared of her on campus within the article, and a video as well. I was drawn to this photo because I was wondering why a person would be carrying a mattress around like she was, on those steep stairs. It wasn't brightness or colors that brought drew me to this but it was the struggle the photo showed.

Hmm. Such a powerful way to stand up against injustice. To me the struggle of it all too really made me emotional. Just thinking about how nothing was done either, but then I think of the strength it took to be able to even carry that burden and realize that this young person is a survivor and is such a role model to other people who have been victims of sexual assault.
